Disability Tax Benefits For Traumatic Brain Injury Patients

Traumatic brain injury or TBI refers to the damage caused to the brain due to an injury. In most cases, the traumatic brain injuries happen as a result of an aggressive blow or a violent shaking to the head that forces the brain to collide with inner surface of the skull. Serious and fatal brain damages can also be caused by the penetration of foreign objects or broken skull pieces into the brain. Severe brain injuries often lead to the bruising, tearing, and bleeding of brain tissues and consequent long-standing medical conditions and, sometimes, even death. Even mild traumatic injuries are dangerous as they can cause momentary dysfunction of the cells in the brain.

Severe traumatic brain injuries can lead to disorders of consciousness, such as coma, minimally conscious states, vegetative states, and locked-in syndromes. Coma denotes a condition in which the patient is totally and is not able to recognize and react to stimuli and is unconscious of environment. The patients in the vegetative state are unconscious, but they may have reflex responses.

The minimally conscious patients are aware of their surroundings, but have a seriously altered mental status. The locked-in syndrome refers to a condition where a patient is paralyzed and is unable to move or speak. However, the patient is conscious and can communicate with their eyes.  Since all patients suffering from consciousness disorder caused by traumatic brain injuries are completely unable to lead a normal life and need the support and care of others, they require round the clock care.

Sometimes, the traumatic brain injuries may result in significant damage to cranial nerves of brain, which in turn can give rise to serious complications, such as vision loss, double vision, loss of facial sensation, and facial paralysis. The traumatic brain injury patients may also suffer from emotional disorders, communication problems, and loss of cognitive abilities like memory, thinking, judgment, solving problems, reasoning, concentration, decision making, initiating or fulfilling tasks.  As these people are not in a position to earn for themselves, they are also entitled to get the disability benefits provided by the Government.

The disability tax benefits and credits are intended to give financial support to those who are not capable to work due to a permanent physical or psychological disability. If you or any of your relatives have an enduring disability due to traumatic brain injuries, you have all right to claim these taxes. However, applying for these benefits and disability tax credits can be little confusing and sometimes requires guidance from a professional. "I wish everyone could know how CDTS has saved me. Sometimes you don’t believe good things can happen. I was wrong; I had never seen a company do so much for me for so little.

Thank you again and again"

David. N. – Oshawa, ON

“As a family we must express our deepest thanks to you for helping us claim our disability tax rebate. Your expertise and professionalism made the procedure ever so simple and understandable. I will recommend you too many!”

Esther S. – St.Catherines, ON

“CDTS has changed the life for both my child and I. Raising a child with autism is not easy and can be very expensive. With my current income, I could not afford some of the courses, and workshops necessary to educate myself on my son’s disability. But with the help and professionalism of CDTS, I was able to get the money I needed to help educate myself on my son’s disability and put him in programs that help develop his skills. “

Fran E. – Guelph, ON

“I’m going to explain why I am so grateful to the CDTS and all that they have done.“

Being diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I have been fired from jobs continuously. I didn’t have very much money because of the loss of jobs; I couldn’t sit at my desks for more than twenty minutes without having to go to the bathroom. I was really in a bad situation with nowhere to turn, until someone introduced me to CDTS. With the help of CDTS, I was able to receive the money I deserved and they did everything, they were so professional even though I was embarrassed about my disability, they made me feel as if it was nothing.”
